“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams.
I like to consider myself a creative person, but I am, by no means, an artist. Great pieces of art teach us much about worlds beyond ourselves. If we give in to an artist’s vision and suspend our perception of reality, we come to an entirely different understanding of the world. I guess you could call it a form of inception, really.
But unlike Christopher Nolan’s mind-blowing movie Inception, which is a piece of art unto itself, there’s no need to enter into someone’s subconscious and mess with it, using specialized government training, or whatever it is they use. One merely needs to find an entry point into the human experience to pull the viewer in.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself in the midst of lots of great pieces of art, quite by accident. Perhaps more inspiring than seeing a world-renowned painting, hanging stagnantly in a museum, is seeing people I know and respect, on a smaller scale, doing what they love, and continually working at perfecting their visions. Check out the slideshow below for some of my recent sources of inspiration, and feel free to share yours. It’s all around us. Trust me. You just have to open your eyes.
