Sleepy Rochester awoke to a chilling reality this Monday morning. It was -4 degrees and for all of those lucky souls who don’t have Martin Luther King Jr. Day off like myself, there was a whole lot of defrosting to do before I made it to work. As I sniffled and shuffled through the frozen parking lot, I gazed upon the shivering bushes, which had surrendered their struggle to stay warm and succumbed to a deep frozen sleep. There’s something placating that surfaces in the face of winter’s harshness, I thought. When we’re forced to slow down, it’s easier to yield to and bask in the warmth and comfort we find in the presence of loved ones.
It was during the deep freeze this past weekend, that we started considering decelerating our wedding plans and nudging February 2012 back to February 2013. Better to be the tortoise, than the hare, I suppose. Since being engaged renders us older and wiser and all – Right? I think that’s how it’s supposed to work – it seems more sensible to prolong the joy of calling one another “fiance,” “future wife,” “f-hubs” and eliminate the possibility of reaching the finish line with empty pockets. Note to all: Weddings, even for the thriftiest of the thrifty, are mucho costoso.
But fear not, dear readers, for this means you’ll be getting twice the wedding-centric blog content for the same can’t-beat-it price of free. While I’m reciting, “Slow and steady wins the race,” over the coming months, I’m hoping to have plenty of “Ooo” and “Ahh” ideas, photos and inspiration-filled moments to share here. I’ll try not to let you guys down :)
